Comforting Easy French Dessert : Apple Cake Grandmere
There is nothing better that the scent of an apple dessert in the oven.
I have been into baking recently and delicious crispy and sweet apples are available at Farmer’s Markets.
This is the time of the year when you grab your favorite sweater, a great novel, pour some hot tea or chocolate in your favorite cup and serve yourself an apple cake in a delicate china plate and eat your cake with your fork…the name of this action is called : Bliss…
Here is my recipe of a very simple and delicious apple cake, the kind of cake that every French woman make. This cake is loved by adults and kids for treat any time of the day : for breakfast, for snack, after school….
Furthermore ingredients are easy to find and may be already in your pantry/fridge.

Apple Cake Grandmere
INGREDIENTS
4 apples
1.5 Cup of all purpose flour
1.5 Cup caster sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp Vanilla extract
1 lemon
3.5 Tbsp of butter
10 Tbsp of milk
1 tsp baking powder
1 pinch of salt
Topping
1 cup of sugar,
1/3 cup of butter
1 egg
Preheat oven to 350 F
Greased and floured round pan cake.
Peel and seed the apples. Cut two apples into small pieces and sliced thinly the other two apples. Sprinkle them with lemon juice and set aside. Melt the butter in microwave or in a saucepan. Sift the flour with the baking powder into a bowl. Whisk the eggs and vanilla extract. Gradually add milk, melted butter, sugar, salt. Mix until smooth and homogeneous preparation. Add the diced apples into it. Mix well for all apples pieces to be incorporated.
Pour the prepared batter and arrange the remaining sliced apples on the dough. Bake for 20 minutes.
During this time make the topping cream: melt the butter, add the beaten egg and sugar. Mix vigorously together and set aside.
After 20 minutes baking, open the oven and pour the cream on the cake and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown,
