The simplest Sunday Cake : Yogurt cake
Again it is a French tradition to finish the Sunday lunch with a cake, a tart or a pie. You can bake it yourself or buy it at any Boulangerie- Patisserie. Usually you buy the cake at the same time you get your Croissants and fresh baguette in the morning.
Gâteau au yaourt is a cake which calls for yogurt: very easy to make. In France it was the first cake I baked with my mother as all my classmates and friends. It is a part of our Curriculum.
This is the kind of cake I teach now during my cooking Classes for kids! Its particularity is to call for a pot de yaourt (a tub of yogurt), and to use the empty pot to measure out the rest of the ingredients, this way it is the easiest way for kids to mesure ingredients.
The gateau itself is golden, fluffy, light, moist, not too sweet, prefect for breakfast, dessert, quatre-heures ( afternoon Snack) .
Gâteau au Yaourt
– 2 Organic eggs
– (1 cup) whole milk plain unsweetened yogurt
– (1 cup) sugar
– 1/3 melted butter
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
– 1 pinch of salt
Preheat the oven to 350° F, grease the bottom, the sides of a round 10-inch . In a large mixing-bowl, gently combine the yogurt, eggs, sugar, vanilla, butter. In another bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder, baking powder and salt . Add the flour mixture into the yogurt mixture, and blend together — don’t overwork the dough. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a cake tester comes out clean. Let stand for ten minutes, and transfer onto a rack to cool.

A very moist and delicious treat!! Caline (who is 3)almost made it all by herself. We all loved it and went back for more! The frosting is wonderful – a delightful change from the sugary frostings usually found on cake. Merci beaucoup!!

I love yogurt cake, sadly I don’t make it that often. Yours look ultimately delicious. And how nice to teach young children to cook and involve in the kitchen at the very young age. I introduced my son with cooking when he was very young , very often now and then he’ll prepare the dinner for us.
Your new site is fabulous!
Cheers,
